"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." --Buddha
Well, I guess at least I didn't die! LOL On top of pre-diabetes, infertility issues, possible pre-cervical cancer, I now have gotten SICK! Like, as in viral sick! And I'm a positive thinker, I swear to you I keep saying that "This is going to break. All bad things come to an end." And they do! It's always been my experience that they do.
So, as the Buddha points out, above, at least I didn't die. I'm EXTREMELY grateful about that.
Manifesting an attiude of gratitude is easy when you're having a good day. In fact, sadly, we don't do much to manifest that attitude when things are going well. We feel we don't need to. We just take our good fortune for granted. How sad that we don't focus on all of the gifts life gives us until we've hit a rough patch. Then, like a life preserver, if you're smart, you reach for it. The worse thing to do is to just get involved in a death spiral of despair, because if you do that you're only going to manifest more despair. The BETTER thing to do is to have that attitude of gratitude for everything that's going right in your life, and do your best to throw the lion's share of your energy on that. The BEST thing to do is to have said attitude of gratitude every single day, so that you manifest more and more happy thoughts and positive experiences.
The best suggestion I have concerning that is for you to have a gratitude journal, and record every day something in it that you're grateful for. Me, personally, despite my health woes, I'm glad that I'm alive. I can lie in bed and appreciate the 600 thread count sheets I have, and the fluffy pillows under my head. I can appreciate my lovely house, nestled on beautiful wooded property, and I'm grateful for the privilege of living here, where there's a great school system in which to raise my children (I have NO DOUBT that I will have children). I'm grateful for all of the negative test results I've gotten lately. No HIV? No chlamydia? No thyroid issues? I'm free of dozens of other maladies that could have befallen me to date? OK! Awesome!
I'm blessed to have the ability to write this blog to you today. There are millions of people across the globe who do not have, and never will have, a computer of their own...or even access to a computer!
I mean, I could always focus on what's going wrong in my life, but why do that? After all, I'll just stay rooted to where the bad things dwell...Ewwwww! That's not one bit useful for me...and it's not one bit useful for you.
Sarah Ban Breathnach created "The Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude" in which the owner is expected to write down five things you're grateful for daily. If you're the type of person who likes pre-fab solutions, this book is very nice--I highly recommend you pick it up and start filling it in! But if five things per day feels like a big chore to you, by all means, just get a blank book and fill it in with one thing a day...and just explain why you're grateful for it...in phrases, a sentence, a full paragraph...whatever feels right for you. You can type a list that you brainstorm up one day, and then spend one day on each item you've brainstormed up, in terms of fleshing out in a journal of your choice as to why you're so grateful for said item.
The opening quote in The Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude is a perfect quote to end today's blog with: "If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough." --Meister Eckhart
