Well, my husband's been addicted to the Wii since we got it from Santa last Christmas. When he first took the box out of the wrapping, he looked at me puzzled. "I haven't played video games since Super Nintendo, Stacey. I don't know how often I'll use this."
Fast forward 48 hours.
"I never said that," Steve told me as he played the game continuously practically since the time he took it out of the box.
Steve truly wanted to lose weight. My losing weight over 2009 (43 pounds) has motivated him to do the same. There was a point in time when we first dated that he was over 300 pounds. Lately he'd been at 260 pounds. Now, he's 248 pounds and dropping. It was only a matter of time before we'd gotten the Wii Fit Plus Balance Board, and Steve has been religiously dropping weight since December 29, 2009. From then until now he's lost nearly 13 pounds. (Again, he's at 248). If he drops three more pounds before the next ten days, he's hit his goal. I don't know what the Wii will do if he actually hits the goal (does it throw a party?) but Steve can't wait to find out. Then he'll set a new goal. The first goal was to drop 15 pounds. We'll see what the next one is.
So, I started the Wii experience today. I created my Mii, which ideally is a representation of yourself. So my Mii has brown hair, brown eyes and is Caucasian. Boring, but it's Mii, I mean me. So, then when you introduce the Wii Fitness Plus Program, it weighs you, calibrates your strength, balance, etc. and then gives you a rating. Then it changes the appearance of your Mii to reflect your true self more accurately. (This is scary if you're obese).
Anyway, look, I know that I still have to drop, like 30 pounds to get to 130 pounds. The Wii agreed withe me that 130 is an ideal weight for me. (And, Wii aside, personally right now I don't care if I just make it to 135...I always looked fly at 135. I don't worship numbers on a scale, normally. That's never been me. But apparently, it's going to be Mii from now on).
My stats were, just in case you're interested: Wii Fit Age 47, Body Mass Index 27.29, and my weight is 159.8.
What's the good news? I'm .2 pounds less than what I thought? Jeez Louise! My age is 39, and the Wii has me at 8 years older than what I am, which is hardly a spring chick to begin with. Then the BMI? Horrendous. What is a BMI, BTW? It means Body Mass Index. What's that, you say? Crash course time! The BMI is the same for both women and men. A score of 20-25 is acceptable. Get a score of 26 to 30 and, like me, you're overweight. 31 to 39 and you're obese. 40 and over, morbidly obese.
Sigh.... Oh, a BMI of under 20 is anywhere from mild starvation to extreme starvation. Like, hopefully, this is never a problem for you. Want to know your BMI and don't have a handy-dandy Wii to assist you? OK, go to your favorite search engine (ex: www.google.com) and type in "BMI calculator" and follow the instructions. Then try not to be depressed when you learn that, more than likely, you are either overweight or obese.
The bottom line? My Mii went from slender to kinda chunky. She actually looked down at her belly and started to rub it. Double sigh....
So my goal is to lose 10 pounds in the next month. That would drop me from, basically, 159 pounds to 149 pounds. I haven't seen the 140's since 2006. It's been awhile. Too long. So, I'll add my Wii Fit Plus results into my blog, which, presuming my health permits, I can now update daily. Whether you have a Mii or it's just "me", you need to do something to get healthier everyday, yourself. Don't do it alone! Let's do it together!
